I’m in Vegas, and want to go camping for the weekend somewhere cool, amd quiet. What’s nearby?

I’m tired of the heat in the Las Vegas Valley, and I want to go camping this weekend. Where is a good place that’s free, out of the way, and nice and cool? I’m looking for upper elevation, and probably near Utah or somewhere North of Vegas. Any good suggestions let me know. (And also somewhere that recreational shooting is okay would be nice, but not mandatory)
