If I go camping in the woods will a bear smell my period?

Bullet Proof asked:

I have plans to go camping this weekend in the woods way up north and I know there are bears around the camping grounds. I have heard that bears can smell menstruation. Is this true and should I be worried about attracting bears? What should I do to prevent an attack?

Yes, and seriously, you can not prevent an attack. We are advised to make noise, yell, blow bicycle horns, and use bear spray or mace. Doc

i’m PRETTY sure a bear won’t smell your ./period!! Unless it’s heavy then i guess so. 2 prevent the attack get a can of hair spray and spray it in it’s eyes!! good luck in the woods!!!

Bears have one of the most sensitive noses in the animal kingdom, so they probably can smell it, but it’s more than likely not going to influence an attack. The chances are the same either way. Jessica S

try to go camping some other time. im sure you’d want to feel fresh all the time & there won’t be public restrooms available where you can change & wash. but if you’d really like to go, bring lotsa water & change pads frequently…those animal noses are really sensitive..but i dont think it will put you in great danger…just be careful & make sure you have a buddy out there ! johann
