Looking for a great camping area in California where you can swim and fish?

I am a resident of Las Vegas Nevada and am looking to go camping (away form the HEAT) in California with my family and two dogs. We are looking for areas where you can camp and bring camping trailers that are too not crowded, you can fish, and go swimming in the river or lake. Does anyone have any good places in mind?

Have only been in Ca a short while and fresh water fishing is new to me. My family and I tried 2 places but both were pretty bad as far as the fishing went.
