Yup* asked:

I am bringing my dog camping for 3 days. He’s never been to a forest before, and so I was wondering what precautions I take. Is there anything I can do to prevent ticks, mites, fleas, etc.? Or is there just treatment after, if he does get something? What other things can I do to make sure this is a safe trip?

I’m planning to go camping on the river (Colorado River) in August and I hear it’s going to be hot. Maybe over 100 degrees. Is this bad for dogs? If so I won’t take her but I’ve always wanted to take her everywhere with me. Leaving her home would break my heart because I want her to experience almost everything I experience. Please let me know.
Here are a few more details to get more specifications. She is a maltese/shih-tzu and is about 4-5 months old. She does have hair.. its growing more and more everyday but it isn’t long. I can take a guess that it’s about 2 inches long? Some people have mentioned that I shouldn’t take her a long and others have mentioned I have but with this new detail, I hope I can get some better answers that are more relavant since the breed is mentioned. Thanks a lot guys!

Dido asked:

I am taking my puppy out for the first time camping for about 5 hours. We are going on a trail and I am just wondering how much water and food to take. Should I also take a blanket and I am also really scared if she steps on something sharp. Is there anyway I can protect her little paws? If not, is there such thing as a dog first aid kit? And what if she starts bleeding? What should I do? I am not carrying her cause she hates being carried. Thanks!

My dog is like 8-9 months old and we are trying to house break her, but we’re having some trouble, having another puppy, 6-7 months old who was also not house broken. I’m going camping this weekend and want to take her with, well actually apparently HAVE to take her with, says my mom lol. and I’m kind of iffy about taking her because I don’t want her to go potty in the tent, but I don’t want to chain her outside all night.

Any ideas?

How to make dog crate warm while camping?

mkt asked:

Our dog is an inside dog, he’s had it pretty good – but when camping the temp could drop to 40 degrees & that’s COLD for us…and him.

We’ll bring his crate because it’s his sanctuary but it’s metal & open. Should I cover it with something or add bedding of something specific for warmth?
His crate will be inside the tent – but it will still be cold!

I’d like to take my 2-year-old Pomeranian camping, in a tent, but I’m afraid she’ll bark at every little noise she hears at night. Any suggestions?

Did they have fun? How did you prevent sunburn? What is something that you forgot to bring along and wished you had? What is something you forgot to take and wish you would have?

Were going camping and to the beach in late September and planning on taking the dog. So were looking for some insight and stories of others.
