~*Absolutley Ordinary*~ asked:

We’re taking our 2 year old (actually 23 month old) daughter camping tomorrow and I’m looking for any helpful tips on camping with young kids.

Also, has anyone ever been to Potato Creek State Park in Indiana? What did you like best and were there any downfalls?

Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Enjoy her explorations and see things through her eyes. Remember tio take all of her comfort items from home and try to follow her routine as much as possible. Use a porta crib if you have one so she is not able to walk away without you nearby. Allow her to get dirty, explore at her own pace and use you to help not jump in and do. Bring sunscreen, hats, bugspray, lots of extra clothes and an open mind. I have a picture of my 12 month old daughter sitting in a mud puddle, memories of my than 5 year old making sparklers with a large stick and the camp fire, my older boys with their mouths open as they took in the view from a peak that took us 4 hours to reach. Giving your daughter a love of the outdoors is one of the greatest gifts you can give her. My daughter began camping at 6 weeks and now at 14 is an avid backpacker. All my kids love nature and the outdoors. Have fun and remember safety. Deb

Deb is spot on with her answer, but remember to bring plenty of wet wipes and you will use a lot of these. They are one of the most important things to bring when camping with a toddler. I’m sorry, I don’t know a thing about Potato Creek state park, but I bet they have a web site since they are a state park, so check there. Time travler
