Are there any laws in Pennsylvania preventing people from camping outside preassigned campgrounds?
My friends and I are looking to go on a camping trip later this spring and we are trying to shy away from traditional campgrounds with lots of people, and we were actually considering just going out in the woods somewhere and camping. If there are any laws against that or if you know any hidden or discreet campgrounds please let me know.

Depends how long you plan to camp, how you plan on getting your camp gear to the site.
check this out:
I like Rothrock State Forest (just about in the center of the state) dragondog1976
I Like Minister Creek In the Alleghenies.
The trail is a Nice 7 mile loop around a valley with an cool overlook on top. At the far end, The North Country Trail Crosses the loop. Hike back to the North Country Trail, Go up it a little way and your all set.
Neatest thing? The valley itself is ringed by roads… Which means if you do get in trouble, it’s a short hike to a road, not 4 miles on a busted ankle.
Do a google search of Minister creek overlook and you’ll see people climb it, Bike it and hike it… lcthulou
There are plenty.
All camping on all PA State Game Lands is prohibited except along certain trails like the Appalachian Trail. In those cases a campsite or shelter may be available for overnight use. The rules against camping are clearly posted at every Game Lands Parking Area and in most trail guidebooks.
Primitive camping is allowed on most DCNR State Forest lands. The link below will give you some guidelines. However, The Forest Supervisor may suspend or restrict camping at any time. It should also be noted that state lands designated as “Wild” or “Natural” are usually closed to all camping.
Camping in PA State Parks is almost always restricted to designated campsites.
Camping in the Allegheny National Forest is usually not restricted to designated campsites only. Camping on all other Federal property inside PA is either prohibited or restricted to designated areas.
If private property is Posted, you cannot camp there without permission. While technically you are still trespassing if you camp on non-Posted property, your chances of getting busted are slim to none. If people don’t care enough to Post the property, chances are they don’t care if someone camps there. Willie D
