♥♥Camping♥♥?
Ok I am going camping on a secluded island for spring break and just now found out that there is no electricity whatsoever. We have already packed the boat and everything but have to now go back to the store and buy items that involve no cooking or heating up at all. Does anyone have any ideas on what foods to buy for our meals for the next 3 days. Any ideas would be great. Also there is no way to keep refrigerated things for more than the first day due to the fact that when the ice melts, were out of luck .Thanks♥

y’all can cook stuff over the camp fire… i would hope your not going camping with no electricity with people that don’t know how to camp or how to make a fire.. you can eat hot dogs over a fire heat up soup (just get like pill top soups) and ice in an ice chest should hold out for a few day. good luck sunshine
Well you could bring hamburgers/ hotdogs for the first day when you still have a cooler to keep them cold until you cook them. After that I would go with canned veggies, tuna, maybe some of those chef boyarede (sp?) canned raviolis or something. You will still be able to heat things with the fire so bring some pots and pans. How about spaghetti? You can boil noodles over the fire and the sauce doesn’t have to be refrigerated before you open it. Cereal, oatmeal, granola bars, there’s a ton of stuff. Just go to the grocery store and walk around, you’ll find a bunch of stuff that you might not have thought of. Have fun!
EDIT: There’s always dry ice too. Dry ice will keep a cooler cool for a few days, so you can pack a few things that need to be refridgerated to have for the first couple of days. You can usually find it at hobby stores and sometimes at supermarkets. julie
Any dried fruit.
Raisins
Water
Canned soup
This trip sounds like so much fun, I want to go! eden

Take granola bars, fruit, bread (p.b and jam sandwiches are a treat on a camping trip), beef jerky, cookies, cheese.
I’m sure you’ll have a cooler, but if you run low on ice, you can sink your beverages in a bag w/ rocks in the river water to keep them cold.
Take a black garbage bag to put water in, hang it from a tree and the water will heat, poke small holes in it and shower with warm water! Be sure to use products that are safe for the environment.
Never forage for food, unless you definitely know what the berries and plants are! Rebecca M
granola bars, cold pastas, bread and popcorn. bring flasks with soup.
as for refrigerating bring powered milk.
you could always just buy a gas cooker that are like €30… I♥ThinLizzy!
Food items which involve no heating or cooking include: Peanut butter/jelly/jam sandwiches
granola bars/grahm crackers/ chocolate bars/ and marshmallows for making s’mores
Individual packages of yogurt
whole fresh fruit ( bring a lot of this if you can, just be sure to wash it at home first. Fresh fruits such as apples, bananas, oranges, pears, and grapes pack well and are not only energy sources, but are also great when you are thirsty. Plus, bananas and apples can be sliced and used to make sandwiches ( peanut butter and banana is a great combination) and other treats. )
bread and bread products, including pancake and biscuit mix for cooking over a fire or on a gas stove
dried or dehydrated foods for backpackers ( any sporting goods store, such as REI or Dick’s, will have these types of foods- usually the only thing you need to do is add water and maybe heat them a little bit over a fire, and you can get complete meals including desserts. Breakfast items are also available in this type of format.)
Instant soup, tea, and cocoa mixes
Powdered lemonade mix/gatorade mix
Instant coffee if you drink it
Powdered milk or canned evaporated milk ( needs no refrigeration)
Dessert items such as cookies, snack items like crackers, potato chips/pretzels/sun chips
Canned salsa and dip for chips
Individual portions of canned veggies ( in plastic, not metal cans- metal cans are heavy to carry, and take up too much room)
Other items you will need include- a backpacker’s stove and sterno or canned cooking fuel
a personal mess kit for each member of your party-and each person also needs his or her own canteen and set of flatware, including a sharp knife, such as a steak knife
Water PURIFICATION SUPPLIES and tablets- MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THESE, especially if you want to avoid getting sick with Montezuma’s Revenge or Giardia, and have to spend days or weeks recuperating and taking antibiotics)
Soap and cleaning products
A large pot or container for boiling water on an open fire
A coffee pot
Dish towels, and washcloths
a skillet or frying pan
Cooking utensils and tools
Jugs for storing drinking water and juices- fill these up with water or juice and freeze them overnight on the day before you leave. As they thaw out, they will keep whatever is placed next to them cold and fresh, which will allow you to carry perishable foods such as hamburger or steak for dinner with you on your first night in camp. Likewise, you can also use frozen reusable cold packs- these will last for HOURS in an insulated container like a cooler, and they take up far less space than ice does- and they are nowhere near as messy as melted ice is. Just be sure to freeze the packs solid before you pack the cooler with them, and once they are in place, keep the lid on the cooler CLOSED as much as possible. Reusable ice packs can be obtained at the same places which sell backpacker’s food- REI, Dick’s, etc., as well as at places like Sears.
I hope this helps you out. Good luck on your trip- it sounds like a great getaway. Starlight 1
Top Ramen…pasta with canned or jarred sauces… Wait, you won’t be able to have fires to cook over??? hmmm…..if that is the case, PB&J, beef jerkey, peanut butter will be a good source of protein so you can have it on crackers too. Um, tuna but only if you can take eating it without mayo, wait what about those little foil packs of mayo that don’t require refrigeration….not sure where to get those, maybe a restaurant supply store. laurie l
